Description

Upon arrival in Ramsau, the mountaineering village - embedded in picturesque winter scenery - offers plenty of opportunities for nature lovers. The village walk starts at the car park Neuhausenbrücke and leads through the mountain spa gardens. In summer you can bravely wade through the mountain water and breathe in the salty air in the brine graduation tower. But even in winter, the circular path through the gardens impresses with its idyllic location. The path continues to the heritage listed rectory-church-cemetery-sacristan ensemble. This is where the famous view of this historical gem with the backdrop of the Reiteralm appears. The harmonic cemetery leads to the entrance to the parish church of St. Sebastian, which became well known as a motif in landscape painting. The church, built in late Gothic style, offers benches inside where the artistic interior can be enjoyed in a peaceful and silent setting. After a detour to the mountain cemetery above the church, the path leads past the now historic Haus Saxen, to the village crèche. Every year on December 3rd, the crèche is erected by painstakingly detailed work and redesigned several times according to the Christmas story, until the arrival of the three magi. Passing the Gasthaus Oberwirt, a narrow sandy path branches off to the right, on which you will pass the two chapels Pletzer-Kapelle and Kalvarienberg-Kapelle. The path of the 15 mysteries of the rosary, which leads up to the Kunterweg church, begins at an almost life-sized crucifixion scene. The idyllic pilgrimage church Maria Himmelfahrt is a jewel of the late Rococo and is all the more impressive due to its secluded location within the forest. The ornate interior of the church, the ceiling paintings rich in figures, and the elaborate high altar convey the importance of this place. After visiting the pilgrimage church, the path leads back along the same route to the Gasthaus Oberwirt and furthers along the village street. Here you will find shops, banks, hairdressers, restaurants, and cafes.
