Built almost 200 years ago as a "pipeline" for saltwater from the Berchtesgaden salt mines, today the Soleleitungsweg is probably the most magnificent high-altitude hiking trail in the entire region. Around 400m above the valley, without any noticeable rise in altitude, the path leads along the sunny southward slopes of Ramsau, overlooking the snow-covered mountains of Ramsau and Berchtesgaden.
Enjoy the comforting warmth of the winter sun, while the chilling cold of Ramsau's valley is almost within reach.
With an unobstructed view of the valley and the surrounding mountain mass, you will pass through snow-covered woods. The tranquility of snow-covered trees makes the hiker feel at home and convey an inner contentment. The increasing snow masses show what winter is all about. With less snow, the hike can even be carried out to the Mordau alpine pasture, but the trail is only cleared to the timber dam.
The length of the tour can be shaped at will, all depending on your mood. Many benches and several restaurants invite you to linger.
This hike is part of the long-distance trail SalzAlpenSteig, more information can be found Here.
