Summer hike, not passable during snowfall
After a few meters on the Hirschbichl road, a hiking path branches off to the right and leads you up to the Halsgrube in a timely manner, at the foot of the imposing south-eastern flank of the Reiteralpe.
The well-secured Böslsteig (steep trail) overcomes some steep and tricky grades and requires you to be fearless of heights and sure-footed, before you enter the lonely plateau. In the unique atmosphere of century-old stone pine forests, a path leads down to the cultivated Traunsteiner Hütte (mountain hut), where you can spend the night.
Descend towards Wachterl and enjoy the silence and unspoiled nature of the national park for a few hours before returning to the valley. Walk along the comfortable König-Max path to the starting point via Taubensee and Hintersee.
