The hike through the Klausbachtal valley to the Hirschbichlpass at the Austrian border is the most accessible part of the heart of the national park.  The starting point is the nationalpark information center, the Klausbachhaus, which houses permanent and temporary exhibitions offering visitors comprehensive information about alpine life, flora and fauna, and goals for the park's nature. Free tours are possible daily from 09:00 – 17:00. Ranger-guided hikes start here several times a week. Initially on the road closed to public traffic, a hiking trail soon branches off to the left. Primroses, gentians, wild orchids, and many other wildflowers and tree rarities line the trail. At the eagle observation site, you can learn about the eagle population in the national park and the newest project, the reintroduction of bearded vultures into the wild. A little further on, the path leads over the suspension bridge within sight of the impressive Mühlsturzgräben, past the national park information point Engertalm-Holzstube, and from there upwards to the idyllically situated Bindalm. The view from the Cross to the so-called Ramsau Dolomites is unique. In about 20 minutes, you reach the Austrian state border at Hirschbichlpass. The alpine hut of the Bindalm and the Alpine Inn Hirschbichl invite you to stop for food and drink. The pass height is also easily accessible with the AlmErlebnisBus. There are many connecting tours in the Austrian Saalachtal. The return journey can be made via the hiking trail, the state road, or the AlmErlebnisBus.
