Built almost 200 years ago as a "pipeline" for saltwater from the Berchtesgaden salt mines, today the Soleleitungsweg is probably the most magnificent high-altitude hiking trail in the entire region.
Around 400m above the valley, the path leads along the sunny southward slopes of Ramsau without any noticeable rise in altitude. Partially in the cool shades of the forest, then again with a breathtaking view of the mountains of the national park, this hike is suitable for people who prefer to have a more comfortable atmosphere.
The interested hiker can learn all about the history of this technical masterpiece of time at an information booth. Many of the old wooden pipes are still visible as silent witnesses of this work on the tracks side. The length of the tour can be shaped at will, depending on your mood. Many Rastbänke and several inns invite you to linger.
This hike is part of the long-distance trail SalzAlpenSteig, more information can be found Here.
