At the beginning of the 19th century a vital artists' colony was created at lake Hintersee. Renowned artists, especially Carl Rottmann, discovered these scenic beauties.
The reputation quickly spread and artists came from all directions: Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Wilhelm Busch, Hubert von Herkomer, Carl Spitzweg, Ludwig Richter or Adalbert Stifter to name just the best known. This path leads us to the places of origin of many famous works. It allows a direct comparison with today's reality and shows the impressive individual artistic point of view.
On site along the Maler-Rundwanderweg (Painters' Circular Trail) you can examine these masters paintings. A brochure (available at the Tourist-Information Ramsau) provides information on the individual easels location, which show the landscape painters works.
The Painters' Circular Trail was realized with funds from the reserve fund of the EuRegio Sazburg-Berchtesgadener Land-Traunstein.
This hike is part of "Let's Geo: Scavenger Hunt 3.0", more information is available here.
