Philosophy of the mountaineering villages

Intimacy but with respect
Enjoyment with no worries
Independent mobility
Stimulation without all the hustle and bustle
A lively atmosphere but without the noise

With around 1700 inhabitants, Ramsau is one of the smallest communities in the district. It has the predicate "health resort" and is located in the biosphere region Berchtesgadener Land. Around two thirds of the area is in the National Park Berchtesgaden. Besides traditional agriculture, the population mainly relies on tourism for their livelihoods. The community strives for sustainable tourism and focuses on the preservation of nature and rural cultural landscape. This reflects the core values of the Alpine Convention: The balance between protection of the alpine region and sustainable economic development.  Due to its location amidst striking high mountains, Ramsau has always been a mountaineering village, even without the official predicate.

The townscape is characterized by an intact structure, buildings and facilities adapt to the natural surroundings. The many restaurants, shops as well as alpine pastures and mountain huts offer extensive regional products and culinary. Visitors can actively relax and recuperate in the largely untouched natural landscape. There is a large selection of walks, hiking and climbing tours as well as tours for mountain bikers, snowshoe walkers, ski tourers, cross-country skiers, and tobogganists.
