The Hintersee is an idyllic mountain lake with many picturesque views and photo opportunities. Pictures of the quiet lake with its imposing mountain backdrop delighted painters of the 19th century as well as professional photographers and social media users today. More than a thousand years ago, around 15 million cubic meters of rock broke into the valley between Steinberg and Schärtenspitze and dammed the streams there. Whether on the barrier-free Prinzregent-Luitpold-Weg around the lake, with the ferry “Annerl”, or with a rowing or pedal boat across the lake, you can enjoy the unique symbiosis between nature and cultural landscape. The Zauberwald (“Magic Forest”) is accessible from the south bank of the lake.
