The Wimbachtal is located between the rugged mountain ranges of the Watzmann and Hochkalter. As the middle one of the three main valleys in the national park, the Wimbachtal is unique for its wild and untouched natural landscape. The walk through the valley compares to a geological journey through time. During periods of heavy rainfall, the debris flows are set in motion and constantly change the landscape. A myriad of endemic plant species can also be explored here. Access to the valley is possible via a sand road or through the wild and romantic gorge Wimbachklamm. There is a national park information station at the car park Wimbachbrücke.
For food and drink you can stop off at the historic hunting lodge Wimbachschloss and the Wimbachgries mountain hut.
