The old saltworks in Bad Reichenhall, the salt mine in Berchtesgaden, and the so-called Soleleitungsweg along the historic wooden pipeline showcase the fascination, technology, and history of former salt production. The "white gold" from the depths of the Berchtesgaden Alps shaped life in the region for centuries. The Alte Saline in Bad Reichenhall, first documented in 696, is the oldest existing inland salt works in Europe. This industrial monument can still be visited today. Since 1926, the production of Germany's most famous salt brand, Bad Reichenhaller AlpenSalz, is located in the state-of-the-art facility of the New Saltworks.
